What kind of flier are you? The one that’s excited about every single journey on a plane and never minds lumps and bumps in the air and can even manage to get some shut-eye or are you like me? Who is currently 37000 feet above Spain and wondering if it wouldn’t have been less stressful to take a train…. ? 😉
Fear of flying …. the first time I got on a plane (about 30something years ago) I was the most excited and loved every minute of it. I did not think that I d ever be affected by fear of flying.
Now 30 years and several very bumpy rides and countless small bottles of Merlot later I always wonder when my fear of flying truly kicked in but one thing I am certain of … fear of flying is very real.
So real that every time there is the tiniest bump in the air I promise myself to never ever get back on a plane and in the future always use alternative methods of travel.
And while I do use buses and trains wherever I can it is not always a good way to travel like when I want to get across the pond – there is no choice – a plane or nothing.
So my question to you dear Reader is the following?
What kind of flier are you? If you are a nervous flier like me – what works for you? How do you get over your fear of flying? How do you cope when the captain has to switch on the fasten seat belt sign and you know its going to get bumpy? Please leave your feedback in the comments. I d really like to know how do you conquer your fear of flying.
Also at this point I want to say a massive thank you to all the amazing staff working on board the many planes I have traveled on. I have the utmost respect for the job you do every day and I am the most grateful for trying to calm me down or assure me that we are safe, to those that have taken the time to explain airplanes and turbulence to me, to those who have handed me a second little bottle of red wine to help calm my nerves and also to those other passengers who have patiently listened to my babbling when scared or tried to distract me with their stories.
My most heartfelt thanks to captain, crew and fellow passengers!
